Tragedy In Kwara: Man Allegedly On Hard Drugs Dies After Jumping Into Well

A somber mood has gripped the Edun area of Ilorin West Local Government Area in Kwara State following the death of a 43-year-old man, Kareem, who reportedly jumped into a well while under the influence of hard drugs.

The incident occurred on Friday, June 6, shortly after Sallah (Eid) celebrations. Witnesses say the man began behaving erratically after allegedly consuming Synthetic Cannabinoids, a potent street drug locally known as “Colorado” or “Colo.”

According to a statement from Hassan Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, the tragic incident was reported around 10:29 AM. Firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene and managed to recover the body from the well.

“The victim, identified as Kareem, reportedly jumped into the well under the influence of a hard substance shortly after returning from Eid prayers,” the statement confirmed.

The body was later handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the C Division Police Station in Ilorin, and officials are awaiting formal identification by the deceased’s family.

The incident serves as another grim reminder of the dangers of drug abuse, especially substances like Colorado, which have been linked to multiple cases of psychosis and sudden deaths across Nigeria.
