Terror Group ‘Mahmuda’ Kills 7 In Fresh Kwara Attacks

A new terrorist group known as Mahmuda has carried out deadly attacks in Kwara State, killing at least seven villagers in two separate raids on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

  • The attacks targeted Karonji and Duruma villages in Baruten Local Government Area (LGA).

  • Residents fled into nearby forests to escape the sporadic gunfire.

  • A local source confirmed four villagers were killed in the evening attack, adding to three killed earlier in the morning raid, totaling seven deaths in one day.

The group has increased violence in North Central Nigeria, especially near Kainji Lake National Park (KLNP). Recent attacks have also affected communities in:

  • Kaiama LGA (villages like Kemaanji, Tenebo, Baabete, Nuku, Nanu)

  • Yashikira District, Baruten LGA

Many residents have fled their homes, leaving behind farmlands.

In Niger State, Mahmuda militants are reportedly controlling parts of Babana and Wawa districts in Borgu LGA, exploiting difficult terrain and sparse security to operate freely.

Security Concerns:

  • Mahmuda has established strongholds in ungoverned border areas.

  • The terrain and low security presence make military operations difficult.

  • Communities remain vulnerable and displaced.
