Tensions Erupt As NSCDC Boss Orders Sudden Withdrawal Of Explosive Petition Against Police! The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has distanced itself from a petition submitted to the Senate by one of its senior officers, describing the move as unauthorized and contrary to inter-agency protocols.

The petition in question was filed by the Commander of the Mining Marshal unit, ACC Attah John Onoja, and alleged that police officers assaulted and shot at NSCDC personnel involved in anti-illegal mining operations in Nasarawa State. The complaint, submitted to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, also accused police of obstructing NSCDC’s efforts to prosecute apprehended illegal miners.

However, in a statement issued by the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja, the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale, made it clear that the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, was not informed of the petition beforehand and was displeased by the incident.

According to Babawale, the Mining Marshal commander acted unilaterally, overstepping his authority by filing the complaint without prior approval from the Corps’ leadership. As a result, the officer has been directed to withdraw the petition immediately.

The NSCDC emphasized its commitment to preserving a cordial relationship with the Nigeria Police Force, highlighting the strong working relationship between the Inspector General of Police and the Commandant General as essential to advancing national security goals.

Dr. Audi reiterated the importance of inter-agency cooperation in supporting President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and affirmed that the NSCDC remains fully dedicated to its collaborative role in fighting crime.

“I have personally spoken with the IGP on this issue and offer a sincere apology for any embarrassment the petition may have caused,” said Audi.

The NSCDC leadership also indicated that appropriate internal actions will be considered regarding the conduct of the officer involved.
