Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has delivered a blunt ultimatum to members of his State Executive Council: deliver results or face dismissal.

Speaking on Monday during the commissioning of eight new duplexes at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba, Oborevwori declared that only performance—not gossip or backdoor lobbying—would guarantee anyone’s seat at the executive table.

“If you’re not performing, we will drop you,” the governor said firmly. “That will not affect others. If you are doing your job, you have nothing to fear.”

In a move that squashes swirling rumours about a possible blanket cabinet shake-up, the governor clarified that there is no plan to dissolve the entire executive council. However, he warned that poor performers will be weeded out individually.

“There are rumours the exco will be dissolved. People are talking too much. I haven’t told anyone that,” he said, adding that he had already confronted underperforming commissioners—“I told one of them today at the chapel: You are not doing well.”

Oborevwori emphasized the need for visibility, proactivity, and leadership within ministries.

“We don’t see some of you. You don’t show initiative. You wait for the governor to come looking for you. That won’t happen.”

He urged commissioners to take full ownership of their portfolios, stating that high-performing ministries reflect the energy and competence of their leaders.

“If there’s a problem in a ministry, hold the commissioner responsible. The success or failure of your ministry is your burden to carry.”

Highlighting his administration’s focus on project delivery, the governor promised a flurry of inaugurations, especially in Warri, similar to the model adopted during the recent unveiling of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road by President Bola Tinubu.

“We have many projects to commission, and we won’t stop this year. We want to showcase them clearly, just like Mr President did.”

Governor Oborevwori’s message is clear: in his Delta, performance speaks louder than politics—and silence is not an option.
