The Nigerian Army has officially confirmed the elimination of three high-ranking Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist commanders during fierce gunfights in Borno State. According to an Army statement released on Thursday, the leaders—Amir Abu Ali, Amir Ibunu, and Amir Abu Waldume—were killed in separate operations at Mallam Fatori and Buratai.
“Three prominent Boko Haram/ISWAP leaders Amir Abu Ali, Amir Ibunu, and Amir Abu Waldume eliminated in Mallam Fatori and Buratai fierce gunbattles,” the statement declared.
These successful operations were conducted by troops under Operation HADIN KAI in the early hours of June 5, 2025, further weakening the terrorist network’s grip in the region.
Rising Security Tensions in Delta State
Meanwhile, security concerns escalate in Delta State’s Abraka community, where unknown gunmen—suspected kidnappers—ambushed security personnel. This follows a joint police, vigilante, and hunters’ operation that reportedly resulted in the deaths of four kidnappers in the university town.
Reports suggest casualties among security officials in the ambush, and tensions have flared between Abraka residents and northern inhabitants in the area.
In a related incident on Wednesday, two residents were allegedly killed by hijackers during a land transaction, prompting rapid police and vigilante response.
Tragically, Marcus Dafe, a protester against kidnapping in Abraka, was reportedly shot dead by suspected kidnappers during a demonstration disrupted by security forces.
The Nigerian Army’s decisive strikes and ongoing security challenges highlight the complex battle against insurgency and crime in Nigeria’s troubled regions.
