Massive Haul! Oyo/Osun Customs Bust Smugglers, Recover ₦25.7 Billion In ContrabandThe Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Command, has announced the recovery of ₦25,777,379,328.17 in revenue from seized goods between March and May 2025.
Comptroller Joseph Adelaja, who disclosed this during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Ibadan, said the figure marks a significant 36.67% increase compared to the ₦18.16 billion generated during the same period in 2024.
Adelaja credited the surge in revenue to the unwavering commitment of customs officers, stricter enforcement of existing regulations, and the deployment of advanced trade facilitation strategies.
“Our use of modern tools has encouraged better compliance from excise operators and greatly minimized revenue losses,” he noted.
Beyond revenue collection, the comptroller said the command has ramped up anti-smuggling operations in anticipation of the festive season to ensure public safety and support the growth of local industries.
In May alone, the command seized contraband items worth a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦335,648,500. The confiscated goods include foreign parboiled rice, premium motor spirit (PMS), used clothes, and fake pharmaceuticals.
“These illegal imports pose serious threats to public health, hinder local businesses, and drain government resources that could be used for development,” Adelaja warned.
He reiterated the command’s dedication to protecting the nation’s economy and enforcing customs laws, stating that all seizures were made under Section 245 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, which permits the confiscation and forfeiture of prohibited items.
