Ini Ememobong Resigns After Akwa Ibom Governor Defects To APC — Akpabio ReactsSenate President Godswill Akpabio has praised Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno for his recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to PUNCH Online, Governor Eno formally left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC during a ceremony held at the Government House in Uyo, the state capital, on Friday.

Joining the governor in the defection were his deputy, Akon Eyakenyi, alongside members of the state executive council, federal and state legislators, and local government chairpersons.

In a Facebook message on the same day, Akpabio expressed his delight over Eno’s move, interpreting it as a sign of dedication to the welfare of Akwa Ibom residents.

He wrote, “It brings me great joy to welcome our governor, Pastor Umo Eno; his deputy, Akon Eyakenyi; the APC governors led by their forum chairman, Hope Uzodimma; and other key party stakeholders to my home in Uyo after the historic defection of my brother, Governor Eno.

“Several members of the state executive council, lawmakers at both federal and state levels, and council chairpersons have also embraced the progressive family.

“Thank you, Governor, for prioritizing the people’s welfare. Congratulations and welcome aboard.”

This announcement came shortly after Ini Ememobong, the Commissioner for Information and Special Duties, submitted his resignation to Governor Eno.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Ememobong explained that his resignation was prompted by his refusal to join the APC along with the governor.

He stated, “Today marks a new chapter as I have tendered my resignation in compliance with the governor’s directive that any appointees unwilling to accompany him to the APC should step down.

“While I respect the governor’s personal choice, I cannot partake in this political path. My decision stems from my commitment to principled politics and my consistent opposition to this party platform—a stance validated by many Nigerians across various sectors.”
