Ibadan On Fire: Petrol Tanker Crash Sparks Chaos – Firefighters Battle Raging FlamesAn unidentified motor apprentice has been hospitalized following a collision involving a petroleum tanker and a trailer, which led to a fire outbreak in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at the Michael Koleoso Government Reserved Area (GRA), along the Oyo/Ibadan Expressway.

Reports indicate that a 45,000-litre capacity IVECO petrol tanker, carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), lost control and collided with a MACK truck container. The impact caused the tanker to erupt in flames.

According to eyewitnesses, the apprentice sustained injuries during the incident and was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident on Thursday. He revealed that the fire service received the distress call at exactly 10:30 a.m. and promptly dispatched a response team led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent Tijani.

Upon arrival, the firemen encountered the burning tanker and took immediate action. They deployed firefighting chemicals and followed strict safety protocols to prevent a potential explosion. The blaze was successfully extinguished within a short time.

“No fatalities were recorded,” Akinwande stated. “However, the motor boy sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for care.”

The accident was attributed to both vehicles attempting to navigate potholes on the single-lane road, leading to the collision.

Akinwande urged motorists to exercise caution and drive safely, especially in areas with poor road conditions.
