He Was a Pillar Of Justice — Top Nigerian Judge Passes Away After Years Of ServiceJustice Daniel Dantshoho Abutu, former Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, has died at the age of 81.
The sad news was confirmed on Wednesday through an official statement by the Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, Sulaiman Hassan.
Justice Abutu served as Chief Judge from September 2009 until his retirement in March 2011 and was widely respected for his integrity, dedication, and exceptional service to the judiciary.
In the announcement, the Federal High Court paid tribute to the late jurist, describing him as a “legal icon who rendered selfless and distinguished service to the court and the nation.”
“The Federal High Court regrets to announce the passing of our former Chief Judge, Hon. Justice D.D. Abutu, who served the court and the nation with distinction, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice,” the statement read.
To honor his legacy, all divisions of the Federal High Court have been instructed to prominently display Justice Abutu’s portrait in a dignified location within their premises.
In addition, condolence registers have been opened at all court divisions nationwide, giving judges, legal practitioners, staff, and the public an opportunity to express their sympathies and pay their respects.
Chief Registrar Hassan noted that details regarding the funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
