Edo Reorganises Security Corps For Professional Policing

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has fully reorganised the Edo State Security Corps to enhance professionalism and strengthen cooperation with existing security agencies. This was revealed during the passing-out parade of 1,472 newly trained corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Okada.
The governor, represented by Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, stated the overhaul was necessary due to political interference and lack of professionalism in the previous structure. The Nigerian Army supervised the corps’ two-week training, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to tackling insecurity.
Operating under the Edo State Security Corps Governance Law (2024), the corps is tasked with intelligence gathering and supporting police operations, especially where conventional agencies are overstretched. A new management board has also been established to ensure accountability, discipline, and welfare of the corps members.
Retired Maj. Gen. Victor Ebhaleme, speaking for the reorganising committee, noted the new structure will help combat security threats more effectively. Governor Okpebholo reiterated that only credible individuals would serve, with strict monitoring and profiling ongoing.
The passing-out parade marks a significant milestone in Edo’s five-point agenda for state development, with security being a top priority.
