Battery Explosion Sparks Devastating Blaze At Kano’s Farm Centre GSM MarketOn Friday afternoon, a fire broke out at the bustling Farm Centre GSM Market in Kano, resulting in the destruction of numerous shops. The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed that the incident was triggered by a battery explosion.
In an official statement released by the Fire Service’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, details of the response were shared. The emergency call was received at approximately 12:32 pm by Senior Fire Superintendent Musa Ya’u, who was among the first to report the fire.
Under the direction of Fire Service Chief Alhaji Sani Anas, firefighters from various units within the Kano metropolitan area were swiftly dispatched to the scene.
The fire affected a single-story building, spreading through both the ground and upper levels. In total, 47 shops, including temporary stalls, were damaged.
The blaze originated on the ground floor, destroying 20 permanent and 13 temporary shops before spreading upstairs, where an additional 13 permanent shops and one temporary shop were consumed by the fire.
Thanks to the prompt action of the fire crew and what the Service described as divine intervention, the fire was controlled using five fire jets, preventing further devastation.
Importantly, there were no casualties or injuries reported from the incident.
In closing, the Fire Service urged market traders and the public to exercise caution when handling batteries and other electrical devices to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.
