War Over Grazing Ends: 10,000 Cows Seized, 170 Herders Nabbed In OndoThe Ondo State Security Network Agency, better known as Amotekun Corps, has announced the successful resolution of the persistent farmer-herder conflicts that once plagued the state.

Speaking on the breakthrough, the Commander of Amotekun in Ondo, Adetunji Adeleye, revealed that decisive action and strategic interventions by the corps had brought the long-standing issue under control. According to him, these clashes had posed one of the most serious security challenges the state had faced in recent years.

Adeleye disclosed that in the course of Amotekun’s operations over the last three years, the agency arrested 170 herders who violated the state’s anti-open grazing law and impounded around 10,000 cows.

He explained that prior to Amotekun’s intervention, the state witnessed violent confrontations on farmlands and grazing routes, resulting in both loss of life and major setbacks to agricultural productivity. Fear of kidnapping and violence had driven many farmers away from their land, compounding food insecurity.

Highlighting the strategies used, Adeleye noted that strict enforcement of the anti-open grazing legislation, alongside a robust public awareness campaign, played a vital role in restoring peace.

“We began with widespread education for both herders and farmers, outlining the rights and responsibilities of each group,” he said. “The government was committed to ensuring people could return to their farms safely. Although it was a difficult process, we achieved stability within a year.”
