Why Simi Says Enough Is Enough With the ‘Duduke’ Tag

Popular Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, known to fans as Simi, has made a heartfelt plea to Nigerians: stop calling her daughter, Adejare, “Duduke.”

Naija News reports that the award-winning artist, who released the viral hit “Duduke” in 2020 while pregnant with her daughter, shared her thoughts in a recent chat with VJ Adams.

Simi explained that although the song was dedicated to her unborn child at the time, the term “Duduke” was never meant to be her child’s identity—nor does it even carry a real meaning.

“People call my daughter Duduke, which I don’t like. That’s not her name. It doesn’t even mean anything,” she said candidly.

According to the singer, “Duduke” is just an onomatopoeic expression—a mimic of a heartbeat—used creatively to capture the emotion she felt as a new mother.

“It was just a beat, duduke, duduke… That was what I meant. My heart beats like a drum.”

Simi went on to say that had the word actually held a positive or meaningful translation, she might have embraced it. But in her view, a sound shouldn’t become a label for her daughter.

Still, the mother of one showed understanding, acknowledging that the name is often used out of affection, not malice.

“But you know what? I get it, it’s coming from a good place, so I try not to react,” she said, ending the statement with a laugh.

This revelation has sparked fresh conversation online about respecting public figures’ boundaries—especially when it comes to their children.
