Peter Obi Slams FG Over Benue Killings, Says Nigeria Is Failing Its PeopleFormer Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has strongly condemned the persistent killings in Benue, Plateau, and other parts of Nigeria, urging the federal government to act decisively in addressing the security crisis.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, Obi expressed deep sorrow over the recent violence, emphasizing that protecting the lives of citizens must remain the government’s top priority.

He extended his condolences to the people of Benue State, who have once again suffered tragic loss due to renewed attacks. Obi emphasized the need for a compassionate and proactive leadership, especially in times of national distress.

Commending the recent initiative by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oloyede, to relocate to Benue State along with key military personnel, Obi said the move reflects a much-needed shift in prioritizing the safety of a region long tormented by violence.

“Following my earlier remarks on the situation in Benue on May 28, 2025, I once again offer my heartfelt condolences to the people of the state. The grief and suffering being experienced are heartbreaking and reflect a larger failure of the nation to protect its own,” he said.

Obi lamented the growing wave of insecurity, noting that his prior concerns over the increasing bloodshed in states like Benue, Plateau, and Kogi have now become a grim reality. He described the killings as “unacceptable and intolerable.”

He called on the government to not only secure the lives of Nigerians but also deliver justice to affected communities, so citizens can live, work, and farm without fear.

“The blood of innocent Nigerians cries out for justice. Any government that calls itself responsible must prioritize the security and survival of its people,” Obi stressed.

Reaffirming his solidarity with grieving families across the country, he concluded with a message of hope:

“A safe Nigeria is POssible.
