Bago Steps In! Governor Delivers Land, Food, And Fast Action For Mokwa Flood SurvivorsNiger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has directed the Ministry of Lands and Survey to immediately issue a Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) to the Federal Government to enable the swift commencement of resettlement housing for victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa.
Governor Bago gave the directive during an on-the-spot assessment of the affected areas, where he met with residents whose homes were destroyed by the flood. He assured the community that the state government would provide both land and essential services for the resettlement initiative.
He further stated that while awaiting the Federal Government’s construction of permanent resettlement homes, the state would put temporary measures in place to ensure that flood victims do not remain in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps for long.
As part of the immediate relief effort, the governor announced the delivery of 10 trucks of food supplies—including rice, beans, maize, millet, and sorghum—to support affected families.
During the visit, Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, expressed deep sympathy for the victims and urged them to remain resilient and trust in divine providence.
The Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, alongside former Deputy Governor Alhaji Mohammed Ahmed Ketso, also commended Governor Bago for his proactive response and compassion toward the Mokwa community. They extended gratitude to individuals and organizations who have contributed relief donations so far.
