The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 23 teenage suspects in connection with a series of daylight robberies, assaults, and harassment incidents in the Mushin area of Lagos.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspects—aged between 14 and 16—were apprehended on Monday during coordinated operations across Ishaga, Awolowo, and Ojuwoye.

The arrests follow public complaints over a surge in street-level crimes, including shop thefts and attacks on residents, allegedly perpetrated in broad daylight by teenage gangs.

“We appreciate the concerns and reports from community members regarding these incidents,” Hundeyin said. “Their input has informed a reassessment of our operational strategies.”

To curb the menace, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, has deployed additional tactical squads, including Police Mobile Force (PMF) units and other conventional teams, to Mushin and surrounding areas.

Hundeyin confirmed that calm has been restored in the affected communities and assured residents of their safety. “People can now go about their lawful activities without fear,” he said.

He added that the area commander for Mushin has been instructed to work closely with local government chairmen to strengthen security measures. Targeted raids on criminal hideouts, slums, and black spots will continue until the area is fully rid of criminal elements.

Hundeyin also stated that the arrested suspects will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
