NDLEA Seizes 62kg Of Cannabis Disguised As Green Tea At Lagos Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a major shipment of cannabis cleverly packaged as green tea at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. According to a statement from the Agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, operatives uncovered sixty-six parcels of “Loud” — a potent cannabis strain — weighing a total of 62.2 kilograms.

The seizure, carried out on June 5, 2025, followed three weeks of surveillance after intelligence tipped off the NDLEA about the illicit consignment arriving via Emirates Airlines from Thailand through the UAE. The drugs were concealed inside green tea wraps at the cargo wing.

In separate operations across Lagos, Edo, Kaduna, and Benin City, NDLEA agents arrested multiple suspects and confiscated additional cannabis and other controlled substances, including skunk, codeine syrup, flunitrazepam pills, methamphetamine, and more.

The NDLEA continues its nationwide War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, combining enforcement with community education and sensitization programs in schools and local communities.

Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), NDLEA Chairman/CEO, commended officers nationwide for their balanced approach in combating both drug supply and demand.
