FG Begins N44,000 Arrears Payment to Former NYSC Members

June 3, 2025

The Federal Government has officially begun disbursing ₦44,000 in minimum wage arrears to former members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The payment comes in fulfillment of the government’s promise following the upward review of corps members’ monthly allowance from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000, which took effect in March 2025. However, to ensure fairness, the FG approved retroactive payments to those who had completed their service before the new allowance came into force.

Brigadier General Olakunle Akinyemi Nafiu, the NYSC Director-General, confirmed the commencement of the disbursement, stating:

“The government remains committed to fulfilling all its obligations. Once funds are made available, payments are processed directly to the accounts of former corps members whose bank details are on record.”

Former corps members have taken to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share screenshots and messages confirming receipt of the payment, with many expressing relief and gratitude for what they described as “long-awaited support.”

This gesture marks a significant effort by the Federal Government to acknowledge the service of young Nigerians and ensure equitable treatment in the implementation of wage reforms.
