“I’m not ashamed of helping—I’m ashamed of the pain people are going through.” — Kiddwaya
Big Brother Naija star and billionaire’s son, Kiddwaya, has spoken out after facing public backlash over his emotional plea for financial donations to support victims of the recent brutal bandit attacks in Benue State.
The reality TV personality, who hails from Benue, took to social media days ago calling on Nigerians to support The Kiddwaya Foundation with as little as ₦500 to aid displaced families. But what was meant to rally support quickly drew criticism, with some accusing him of seeking clout or questioning why a billionaire’s son was asking for public funds.
Now, in a heartfelt statement posted to Instagram on Thursday, Kiddwaya set the record straight.
“I didn’t post about Benue for attention—I posted because I care. I am a proud Benue man. Seeing my people killed, displaced, and suffering broke my heart,” he wrote.
While acknowledging the outrage his donation request stirred, Kiddwaya explained that he took the post down—not out of shame—but out of respect for those who misunderstood his intentions.
“Yes, I saw the comments. Yes, I heard the backlash. But let’s not lose sight of what really matters—lives are being lost in Benue. Families are being ripped apart. Children, mothers, fathers—dead or forced to flee their homes.”
He added that while he can’t solve the crisis alone, he’s committed to using his platform, resources, and voice to continue supporting those affected, whether or not he’s criticized.
“The Kiddwaya Foundation was built for moments like this. I won’t stop showing up. I won’t stop caring. This was never about me—it’s about the Benue people.”
Kiddwaya’s emotional plea comes after renewed violence in Benue State left dozens dead and hundreds displaced, prompting a national outcry for action and aid.
“I hope that when the noise fades,” he concluded, “we’ll all remember what truly matters.”
