Atiku Blasts Tinubu’s Regime: Accuses Government fO Turning Poverty Into A Political Weapon

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a scathing attack on the Tinubu administration, alleging it is deliberately using poverty to dominate and suppress the Nigerian populace.
Speaking in Abuja at the 60th birthday lecture of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi — aptly themed “Weaponising Poverty in Nigeria” — Atiku didn’t hold back. He accused the government of intentionally deepening economic hardship as a tool for control.
“I never saw people sleeping on the streets or under bridges during my early years in Kano,” Atiku lamented. “Today, poverty and insecurity have forced thousands onto the streets — a sharp contrast to the thriving Kano I once knew.”
He revealed that a state agency tasked with aiding the homeless was abruptly ordered to halt its efforts by federal authorities.
Slamming the federal response, Atiku declared: “This government is weaponising poverty. But we will not sit back. We are forming alliances to fight back — to end this era of using state power to keep Nigerians poor.”
Referring to Amaechi, Atiku added with a hint of irony, “One of our star conspirators in this mission is Rotimi Amaechi. Together, we will keep conspiring to fight poverty, not the people.”
