‘APC Has Failed Nigeria’ — Onovo Calls For United Front To Defeat Tinubu In 2027 ElectionsMartin Onovo, former presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party (NCP), has urged opposition politicians to unite and form a robust coalition aimed at defeating President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
According to Eyesjournals, influential figures across Nigeria—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and others—are advocating for a coalition to remove Tinubu due to what they describe as his administration’s poor performance.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun Newspaper, Onovo characterized the current government’s performance as disastrous, emphasizing that Tinubu has failed to fulfill his promises of effective governance.
He stated, “The ruling party’s performance is not just poor—it’s catastrophic. The APC has let down Nigerians. It has become a nightmare for millions across the country. Nigerians were misled by the party and its leaders. Instead of delivering on its promise of good governance and dynamic leadership in 2023, Tinubu’s administration has brought Nigerians hunger and poverty.
“This is the worst government Nigeria has seen since 1999. APC has become a burden on the people. It must be voted out in 2027. I fully support a coalition of opposition parties to achieve this. We need the collective backing of leaders like Atiku, El-Rufai, and others to form a united front. A coalition of democratic forces is the only viable path forward.”
Onovo also addressed the recent trend of mass defections to the APC, suggesting many defectors are fleeing due to fear of investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He added, “The wave of defections clearly reveals those politicians who support corruption, incompetence, insecurity, and poverty under this government. These moves appear orchestrated by the ruling party. Many defectors carry unresolved legal issues and are running to APC to avoid accountability. They lack true political principles and act solely out of self-interest.”
